Rebecca Gladstone

Born in Sydney, Australia, Rebecca attended The Kim Walton School of Dance, followed by the Marie Walton-Mahon Dance Academy as a full time student. After competing in the Adeline Genee Awards in London, she was offered a place at the English National Ballet School, performing as an apprentice with the English National Ballet Company. On graduation, she became a member of the Ballet of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, then under the direction of Peter Schaufuss. She continued dancing with this company under the directorships of Ray Barra, Richard Cragun and Sylviane Bayard and was promoted to Soloist in 1999. In 2003 Rebecca joined the Vienna Staatsoper Ballet under the direction of Renato Zanella, and in 2006 she was invited to join the Dresden SemperOper Ballet under the direction of Aaron S.Watkin, with David Dawson as the Resident Choreographer.

Throughout her dance career she performed soloist roles in numerous versions of the classical repertoire and many other productions and creations from noted choreographers both classical and contemporary. Rebecca has also participated in various Galas and Festivals in Spain, Italy, France, Portugal and Germany. She has worked with many choreographers including: Jiri Kylian, William Forsythe, Nacho Duato, John Neumeier, Heinz Spoerli, Sir Peter Wright, Angelin Preljocaj, Peter Schaufuss, Ronald Hynd, Ray Barra, Youri Vamos, Glen Tetley, Marguerite Donlon, Renato Zanella, Johan Inger, Mauro Bigonzetti, Jo Stromgren, Goyo Montero, Mario Schöder, Valery Panov, and David Dawson.

Since 2010/11 she has been engaged as Ballet Mistress with the Dresden SemperOper Ballet. Rebecca has also been engaged as guest teacher with the Cullberg Ballet and the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken Ballet and completed the introductory course of the Benesh Movement Notation Diploma with the Benesh Institute. Since 2007 Rebecca has also worked as the personal assistant to the Director and to the Designer of Yumiko Dancewear.

In 2006 she assisted David Dawson on his creation of The Disappeared. In 2008 she was involved in the creation of Dawson’s Giselle and subsequently has assisted him in restagings of the ballet. In 2009 Rebecca assisted David Dawson on his creation The World According to Us.
